Ain't the Boss of Me

NY Daily News:

Opponents chanted "No mosque, no way!" and carried signs reading, "9-11-01: Never Forget," as Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" blared over loudspeakers.

Would it be too much trouble to ask that our star-spangled dimwits actually read the fucking lyrics to that song? Would it?

Someone should tell them. I was dumbfounded when I heard CCR's "Fortunate Son" played at a Republican event. In case you don't know what I mean:

Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no,

Obviously, they only heard the first two lines.

The rank and file may be just stupid and too lazy to pay attention to anything but the chorus, but it's really something to see the, uh, intelligentsia of the right wing attempt to validate their worldview through art and entertainment. Roy Edroso refers to them as Zhdanovists. My favorite was the idiot from National Review who attempted to compile a list of the 50 greatest conservative rock songs of all time.
